DOE Live Video Presentation: Smart Grid Development in the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and Brookhaven National Laboratory are conducting a free, online presentation on smart grid development in the U.S, Thursday, Dec. 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST. This presentation will give audiences an opportunity to interact with leading smart grid expert Dan T. Ton, program manager in the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, who oversees smart grid research and development within the U.S.

DOE and FERC Joint Public Statement on Back Stop Siting

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today his decision that the Department of Energy will work more closely with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in reviewing proposed electric transmission projects under section 216 of the Federal Power Act (FPA), as an alternative to delegating additional authority to FERC.

10 Year Transmission Plan for the Western Electricity Interconnection Released

Western Electricity Coordinating Council releases its first-ever transmission plan for the Western Interconnection.

The Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) announced the release of its first 10-Year Regional Transmission Plan (Plan) for the Western Interconnection.    The Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability awarded WECC a $14.5 million grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to expand on its transmission planning activities.

Department of Energy Will Hold a Batteries and Energy Storage Information Meeting on October 21, 2011

On Friday, October 21, 2011 the Department of Energy will hold a public meeting from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the  Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, MD to provide information and receive comments from the public on directions for a potential research effort on batteries and energy storage.
